dont know what type of game you wanna make but godot can do 2D and 3D games, the interface is pretty solid and the documentation are pretty good and plenty of tutorial on youtube. You might also wanna check Gamemaker Studio since it has visual script and is quite good for 2D games.

Getting stuck causes players to explore the world.

Dying causes players to think about what they're doing.

An "impossible" situation causes players to learn how the game works and eventually achieve the impossible.

We need to be able to design *some* games around these fundamental ideas.

maybe Game Maker with their Visual Coding interface can help or If its 3d you can buy The Adventure Creator Plugin for Unity it has visual scripting and you can make some kind of 3d narrative exploration game with it.

maybe try with LÖVE2D ? its full LUA like pico-8 so could be nice ?
