Road to the Top is a great mini-series. You can tell the direction they were heading with the franchise

Season 1 is a little rough around the edges, as it was made primarily to advertise the game (which was still a couple years away, even in Japan), but it's still a solid watch.
Season 2 is peak, as I said.
Season 3 is solid, though I think it tried to tell too many stories at once.
