in general it can’t be a bad thing for writing

i think radlib horror at e.g. arbitrary prosecutorial power or borders, though, can be in some ways genuinely destabilising. it’s hard to conceive of a liberal democracy without either. you kind of want to push the point a little bit further, to see where it goes

the legitimate germ to the silly social fascism allegations is that social democracy is always, in some capacity, going to be a retrenchment. we’ve already seen the social democracy dial turned up to 11; nothing peaceful is going to get the US to 70s sweden level wage compression

i was thinking about this apropos of someone asking what happened to leftist abolitionism, why the retrenchment was so quick. in some way it was always skin-deep; at its core twenty-teens leftist revivalism wanted to react centristishly to perceived liberal woke excesses

there’s much right about the resist fascism/no kings radlib horror at the admin’s uses of the state to punish & harm. tough how the stock DSAish lefty message, faulting billionaires/state capture, can assuage the liberals by letting american institutions themselves off the hook

in my dreams last night i was really good at reading early dynastic sumerian because of the time i spent grinding egyptian. but then i woke up and they weren’t mutually intelligible at all

imagine the rival Kirby Laing Chair of New Testament Eisegesis was right across the hall… & they locked eyes
‘but the mysteries!’
‘i don’t care what it says, by Paul—i care what *i* say’
‘you make me feel so kenotic… what *do* you say’
‘i say it’s time to change dispensation’

perhaps slightly more surprising would be that of the four steely dan songs thus included all four are from can't buy a thrill. but then again that's about the level of execution you'd expect from amtrak
cozyunoist.bsky.social
if i told you guys that the amtrak hold line was an endless and yet surprisingly variegated stream of 30% steely dan songs and 70% lesser steely-dan-alikes would that even potentially register as new information

i wear many hats. or at least read many journals.

3 - we did a lit review of 'regenerative dentistry' research again. turns out there isn't any such research unless you count mount teeth, so add 20 years to the ETA
4 - we did an n 57 study of this quack device a boston-area VC came up with. also it's unblinded & i am the VC

4 types of papers in dental journals:
1 - we did 'epidemiology' & 'found out' that poor people had bad teeth. let's moralise
2 - did you know that periodontitis is weakly correlated with this unrelated condition? neither did we but we kept looking til we found a 1.02 hazard ratio

we should have an annual lottery to determine which two humanities disciplines we bowdlerise & teach in highly formalistic fashion to middle schoolers. you could tell what cohort people were in by their general vibe, e.g. seeming french indicates it was a philosophy & latin year

yeah depressingly a lot of north jersey has better bagels on average than the wrong part of south brooklyn… i’ve been staying in this corner where the 2/3 closest bagel shops are weirdly terrible and the one that isn’t closes at 2 except ofc erev shabbos

just saw a horrifyingly ghoulish, totally still figure holding a bat wearing an ortiz red sox jersey poised in front of a yard to spook child passers-by and realised it was a crazy looking wax statue. so i slowed my run to get a better look at it and it headnodded at me
