A brilliant turn out yesterday for our Curriculum and Power symposium - around 60 in person and 10 online participants. Really thought provoking contributions from our speakers.

Our next free webinar is 17 September - David Leat on Community Curriculum Making.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🌍Scotland has become the first country in the world to introduce Film and Screen studies into primary and secondary schools. Thanks to Scottish Government, Screen Scotland, Education Scotland and all teachers and pupils in pilot schools for making this happen. 📽️🎬 📺 www.screen.scot/news/2025/se...

The world is a poorer place without the great Giles Havergal. Working with him and learning from him was a career highlight and an absolute joy. He was smart, hilarious and intriguing with enough mischief to put me in an Elizabethan frock. He'll be missed.

“Education is not just reading, writing & maths but also learning about human rights, different cultures, and the natural environment.”

Children must be heard by decision-makers and Young Advisor Robert told the UN about the importance of free pre-primary & secondary education.
A young person wearing glasses and a red-and-white Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland shirt sits at a United Nations desk. In front of them is a nameplate reading ‘ROBERT,’ and the UN emblem is visible on the desk panel.

Today is the first anniversary of UNCRC incorporation into Scots law. Having children’s rights in law is a huge milestone but it’s just one step. We’ll keep holding people in power to account so every child in Scotland can have their rights respected, protected, and fulfilled.
Graphic featuring a quote from Nicola Killean, Children and Young People’s Commissioner for Scotland. The quote reads: “The UNCRC has been part of our law in Scotland for one year now – it’s a huge step forward for children’s rights but there is still much more to do.” The text is in bold blue and red font. The Commissioner’s logo appears in the top-right corner, and a stylised sunrise icon in blue, yellow, and orange appears in the bottom-right.

“Inclusive education is not about being “woke” or meeting diversity targets or indoctrinating children. It’s about making sure that the next generation grows up knowing that being LGBT isn’t shameful or controversial, it’s a human experience like any other.”

Love this! We can usually involve. We can usually listen. And we can always observe. Children and young people always have expertise to share with us and each other.

The UNCRC supports children’s rights to give consent, to be consulted & to complain

But often adult myths about their capacity get in the way

@jochamberlain.bsky.social‬ and I researched with children what they think of this and what might help

Some resulting resources - feel free to use! 🧵 1/4
