Professor Jason Carroll, Interim Director at the @cruk-ci.bsky.social emphasised how this is affecting their research.
Image of Professor Jason Carroll, Interim Director, Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, quoted saying "We need world-class talent to beat cancer sooner. But visa costs send the message to researchers that they aren’t welcome in
the UK.”
“High immigration costs are drawing money away from lifesaving cancer research at the CRUK Cambridge Institute and the other Cancer Research UK-funded institutes.
Costs and increasing barriers in the immigration system send the message to talented researchers across the world that they aren't welcome in the UK. This risks undermining the excellence of UK research, and means it takes longer to fill roles, delaying research. We are now covering more costs to ensure talented researchers can come to the UK.
We need world-class talent to beat cancer sooner. The UK Government must reduce visa costs for researchers and ensure the UK remains attractive to the best international researchers.”

Ovarian cancer is a devastating disease & almost all patients can develop resistance to the standard treatment. Researchers from our Institute & Stanford University have now discovered new insights into why this happens, offering hope for new treatment strategies

Outreach is vital to our mission, so we were delighted to welcome Year 10 students from Thomas Clarkson Academy to take part in a Cambridge Launchpad project day with Form the Future. All activities were chosen to inspire students to consider both scientific and non-scientific roles within research.

New research published by the Institute's de la Roche Group is shining a light on why some cancer drugs have been underperforming in clinical trials.

This knowledge opens new opportunities for immunotherapies to be made more effective.
