The Partnership for Southern Equity, a formerly strong critic of TADs, is now a partner in the TAD extension plan and all it took was $160k. Shame on them and their leadership for cutting such a deal. The Atlanta way in action once again. Thanks to @roughdraftatlanta.com for the reporting.

Such weak sauce. The council continues to be full of cowards.
The updated legislation removes the 50% AMI minimum for funding. It instead says essentially that the city will shoot for 50% but accept 60% AMI.

It also allows up to 15% of the fund to be used for administrative and personel costs—it does not distinguish between the two costs.

Did this open up not that long ago with a lot of funding already granted??

The Urban League is terrible at rent assistance. They didn’t do any until Covid. And take a heavy admin fee, as noted later in the thread. There are sooooo many better orgs to provide rent and utility assistance in the city than them :/

Atlanta's Housing Justice League is calling on folks to "STOP THE TADS" (TADs=TIFs for folks not in Georgia) and this is about Mayor Dickens' proposal to extend 25+ year-old TIFs (many parts of which are in gentrifying nabes) until 2055.

Not one of these orgs has been a critic of Atlanta development policies. Only 2 are even neighborhood orgs & one of those was created by large corp’s. 1/2

I feel like you could write an entire book on urban infrastructure policy and liberal governance failures just using the example of Atlanta's Juniper Street complete street project.

All of this for a single mile of streetscaping.

The old term was Voodoo math. The city has created a “halo” area for the TADs. Saying that the made up “halo” areas boomed due to the TADs, namely the Beltline, leading to an additional $35m in tax revenue. Thus we should extend the TADs. I hate politics.

Here in Atlanta yesterday, more than 2,000 people waited in their cars—one woman for 14 hours—for a box of food. The giveaway ended early; there wasn't enough to go around.

Multiply this scene by countless others across the country, and you get a sense of how crushing the desperation is right now.

"Compared with Dickens’ predecessor...there was about a 20% to 40% increase in affordable housing development...according to...Dan Immergluck

Even with that uptick the mayor’s wins are “overhyped,” Immergluck said...the city is not producing enough housing to even run in place."
Is Mayor Dickens’ housing policy built on a strong foundation?
The city’s housing model has drawn praise, but there are questions about whether it reaches those who need it most.

Wow. Great use of funds GA
In 2013, we gave General Motors $17.5 million in state & local tax incentives to get an "innovation center" in Roswell, GA. That's tax money that could have gone to public services.

Today, GM is closing the center. 325 people are being laid off.
