Former blogger for The Cub Reporter, longtime Cubs fan with the ulcers to prove it. Will forever worship at the altar of Santo, Kessinger, Beckert, and Banks.
While raking leaves, I noticed dozens of birds assembled in the branches of our tallest tree, chirping in chorus, as if agitated. Possible film idea? Birds turn aggressive, attack people for no apparent reason. Not sure what I’d call it, but thinking “the birds” should be in the title. #scriptsky

#Cubs named 2025 Fielding Bible Defensive Team of the Year! ((Suck it, #Dodgers and #BlueJays!)

I know the #Blackhawks regular season is only 8.5% complete, but this is still a fine sight to see.

Most satisfying win I’ve seen in person and best Wrigley atmosphere I’ve been part of since the Workd Series. Plus I saw this.

From today’s @baseball-reference.com newsletter.

If Maldonado’s bat beats the #Cubs, it can only be God’s will.

This didn’t work.

#Cubs' magic number over the Padres, ensuring the top Wild Card spot, about to be reduced to Pit Martin. (Apologies for the mixed symbolism, but the #Blackhawks' season is just around the corner.)

Also, I apologize for underestimating the thunder the #Cubs would bring to Wrigley Field today.

For reasons I can’t recall now, Davey Johnson was my favorite non-#Cubs player since I pulled his card from a Topps pack in 1968. I was thrilled that he ended his long, outstanding playing career as a Cub, hitting .306 in a bit role at the end of the ‘78 season. RIP.

I pulled this out of the t-shirt drawer this morning. Funny: Today it seemed an apt choice for spray-painting patio furniture; back in ‘08, I kept it with my “good” clothes.

Until the #LAAngels name a starting pitcher, I won't know who the #Cubs are planning to make look like Sandy Koufax tonight.

Among the many things I now recall fondly about Jack Brickhouse is how often he would say without proof—since no such proof was possible—that the #Cubs had the best grounds crew in baseball.

Had to smile when these two guys plopped down in front of me at today’s #Cubs game. Highlight of my day. Literally. It was all downhill for the next 2 hours and 29 minutes.

I just got this magnificent baseball-card illustration t-shirt created by @gummyarts.bsky.social honoring the 2016 World Series champs and coupled with the three home runs Owen Caissie will hit this afternoon, it’s making for a fantastic day.

Starting this #Cubs game day by peeling back the clouds to identify a silver lining:

It's August 12, and the Cubs have a better record than the Most Expensive, Most Talented Baseball Team Ever Assembled.

Was looking at @baseball-reference.com's Stathead tool re: Cade Horton's scoreless IP streak. Does anyone recall Ryan Dempster's 33 consecutive scoreless IP for #Cubs—across 5 GS!—in 2012? I have zero recall of it, and it's damn impressive. Now I can almost forgive the Harry Caray impersonation.

TLDR: Hated it, lamented having given Hoyer a contract extension, said, "Jesus! How could we not have landed Joe Ryan?! Zac Gallen even!" #Cubs

Happ and Shaw not in tonight's #Cubs starting lineup v. #Yankees. In July, they're a combined 3-for-57 (.053) with 4 RBI.

I *knew* they were right to get rid of him!

The margin isn’t much, but I still like the looks of this. #Cubs #MLB #baseball

A 6! My second best score ever. And I got to turn to one of my favorite #Cubs, Mr. Biittner.

The day can only go downhill from here.

Fun fact learned while visiting Paris: Jean-Baptiste Colbert, minister of Louis XIV, insisted that his countrymen use the Anglo pronunciation “COLE-bert” rather that the standard French pronunciation “cole-BAIR” because he thought it made him seem cooler. #stephencolbert #latenight

Justin Verlander to the Giants.

I would have better if Eddie Haskell was also in the episode.
