On Thursday, October 16th, Professor Joseph Straus presents a colloquium on his recent research, “Classical Music’s Jewish Problem,” on antisemitism in Western Classical Music (1850-1945) with a particular focus on works of Wagner, Strauss, Webern, and Stravinsky.

Congratulations to recent DMA alumnus and clarinetist Graeme Steele Johnson, whose album "Forgotten Sounds" (the world-premiere recording of Loeffler’s Octet) has been nominated for the Gramophone Classical Music Award — one of the highest honors in the classical music industry!

On Thursday, October 9th at 1pm, violinist and faculty member Rolf Schulte performs in Elebash Hall with pianist Joseph Liccardo as part of the Music in Midtown series. The program features Beethoven’s Violin Sonatas Op. 23 & Op. 24, and Schönberg’s Herzgewächse, Op. 20 (arr. for violin and piano).

On Friday, October 3rd at 7:30pm, faculty member Thomas Sauer presents a solo piano recital in Elebash Hall, featuring: Mozart’s Piano Sonata in F Major, three études by Abrahamsen, Ligeti, and Chin, Schumann’s Nachtstücke, and Chopin’s Two Nocturnes, Op. 62 and the Polonaise-Fantaisie.

On Friday, August 29th at 6pm, DMA pianist Joseph Vaz performs a recital in Elebash Hall. The program will feature solo piano works by Ed Bland, Ruth Crawford Seeger, Akin Euba, Olivier Messiaen, Art Tatum, Alexander Scriabin, and Igor Stravinsky.

Congratulations to pianist and alumnus Nicolas Namoradze on his residency at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland! He will premiere Neuropiano and the Neurorecital, a multidisciplinary collaboration that explores a pianist’s brain activity during performance using Neuroscape’s Glass Brain technology.
