Instead of extending extra healthcare subsidies, here are some things we could do to actually make health care more affordable by reducing costs: 1. Eliminate minimum coverages, so you don't have to buy coverage you don't want 2. Allow polices to be purchased across state lines 3. Make high deductible policies + HSAs available to all, with greatly increased contribution limits 4. Allow individuals to spend pre-tax dollars on health insurance And here's a spicy one: 5. Allow pricing based on health, so consumers are exposed to the economic consequences of their lifestyle choices and have an incentive to be healthy.
