You’re right he won’t but the allegations must still be made as he hopefully will be held to

Is there a nice simple guide to the bond market? I don’t even understand how you make money on them

The question I would ask is would his presence have improved decision making? I really think he had absolutely no nothing to offer as a PM and was best kept away. Unfortunately the authority resided in the office he held
November 23, 2025 at 1:01 PM
I wonder if he had anyone particular in mind?

Is pushing gilts down good or bad? I’ve never understood bond markets

Fair enough, you may know his biography much better than I do. I still think that with Trump as with Franco they aligned themselves with the ‘conservative’ option that didn’t challenge the church. But it is always about ‘the church’.
November 14, 2025 at 5:26 PM
Oh they would always vote conservatively and Trump was what was on offer. They would ALWAYS vote for the anti-abortion candidate as that issue seems to override all others. I’m in the UK I recall my very conservative father voting once for a Labour candidate who happened to be pro-life.

Escriva never set out to cause harm to others. He wasn’t a sociopathic abusive narcissist, to compare him to Trump is unfair. Trump is a thoroughly abhorrent man, Opus Dei is intolerant, with a reactionary approach to people lives but I wouldn’t say it was maliciously ambitious
November 14, 2025 at 4:47 PM
Well growing up I knew a lot about Opus Dei. My father was a member. It was full of weird, intense and obsessively religious people with a cultist approach to Escriva but they were generally sincere and humble. They genuinely felt that good came from their approach, it wasn’t ambition
November 14, 2025 at 4:41 PM
As someone who really really dislikes many aspects of Opus dei I still think that’s unfair.

Will there now be a thorough search of the Albert Hall?
November 13, 2025 at 7:51 AM
Well I’m not from the USA but I am 100% sure that all that will happen is money will be siphoned upwards. Trump has zero interest in the needs of ordinary Americans, he regards them as useful idiots
November 4, 2025 at 4:12 PM
Yep totally missing the point that returning manufacturing to the USA is supposed to bring with it secure well paid employment and yet it’s already being acknowledged that won’t be the case
November 4, 2025 at 11:51 AM
The way it will work is a product that sold pre tarrifs for $100and now selling with Tariffs for $200 will sell at best if manufactured in USA for $180 thus will be portrayed as a gain for the consumer
November 3, 2025 at 6:43 PM
So you actually think they will manufacture stuff in the USA and sell it for less or the same as before tariffs? If you do would you care to buy some magic beans from me?

If I recall it was £1200, we had to queue up at a hatch each term in admin to receive a cheque, arts and humanities students watched on bitterly.
