END OF THE LINE: BEIJING.

A project I've had brewing a while is a series visiting the end of each line of the Beijing Subway & just having a little look around. No research, no plans, just a little wander like I did in Hohhot .

In this 🧵 of 🧵s, I'll do just that

Often the hardest part of putting together my 100 tracks of the year list is not deciding on which song goes were, but on choosing which to cut form the longlist.

This year, that longlist was 141 songs long.

He's the 41 that just missed out. Consider them honorable mentions 🧵

For decades, sustainable & responsible cities haven’t just been possible — they’ve been common sense, logical, ridiculously obvious! And yet we’ve failed to act. A better future through better cities is STILL possible with real leadership at every level. #ActionStartsHere @mayors4climate.bsky.social

Can I get in early here to say - ignore the joy thieves that moan about you sharing your Spotify Wrapped.

I love it. Look forward to seeing everyone's each year. A little window into their day to day life - the stuff that soundtracks their ordinary.

Share & share away!

I'm a big fan of infrastructure. I'll often plan entire days, entire trips around it. But I don't really understand the intricacies. How it works, how it's built. How it changes, & changes things.

Which means much of my spare time is just spent looking at big things and thinking 'wow, cool!'

Recently put together my '50 Tracks of the First Half of the Decade'.

Was hoping to share them as little clips like I usually do so you could sample each song before listening, but that no longer seems to work. What a pity.

But anyway - here's the list! 🧵

We were due to visit Japan for Christmas. Had started weighing up our options with the current geopolitical tension.

I thank the Ambassador for making our decision for us by making it about lazy stereotypes of people no way involved.

Absolutely no desire to visit now.

China's electrification transition is dramatic, and leaving us in the dust.

So much for LNG-powered trucks! China and soon India are leapfrogging to the new. And our leaders pushing LNG and retreating on ZEVs look sad & vision-less in comparison.

China's diesel trucks shift to electric. This could change global LNG and diesel demand.
China is replacing its diesel trucks with electric models faster than expected, potentially reshaping global fuel demand and the future of heavy transport.

Dan, RIP Mani. A member of two of the most iconic bands of all time. That's not bad going!

Some next level bass lines that man gave the world, & for that we must be forever grateful.

Truly a dark stain on the history of my hometown. So tragic, for Peter, & for Diane's family
The police arrested a man with learning difficulties, prevented him from having access to a solicitor & beat him until he confessed. He then spent 38 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit.

Anyway since we're on China commentators, I also found out Drew Pavlou added his own picture to his Wikipedia page, which is quite funny isn't it?

Just found out that not only is China journo Melissa Chen married to former Mumford & Sons banjo player turned right wing commentator Winston Aubrey Aladar deBalkan Marshall, but that Mr Aubrey Aladar deBalkan Marshall is also the son of the owner of the Spectator! (both his & Chen's employer)

A tragic, moving, & important long read in the Guardian today that I really do think you should read, for Craig & the many Craigs in your hometown and every town. But also for the Pams, Stevens, Johns, Jodies, & Taras.

& you, too - you can make a difference.

When I met Craig he was 13 and homeless. I still thought his life might turn around. I was tragically wrong
The long read: I knew he was running away from something. It wasn’t until many years later that I discovered the truth
