You could easily look this up yourself if you were actually curious. Capital cost for offshore wind is cheaper than coal and substantially cheaper than coal+carbon capture on a $/kW basis, without even accounting for externalities

Tldr, these fuels are very inefficient, with only c. 15% of the available energy heating the cooking vessel and food. Alternatives can be multiple times more efficient
Improving Efficiency Traditional biomass or charcoal cookstoves are less than 15% efficient (Khavari et al.. 2023). meaning most generated heat is lost to the environment rather than heating the cooking vesse and food. Cleaner fuels and technologies can be many times more efficient, using less energy to prepare meals than traditional fuels and cookstoves (Kashyap et al., 2024). Reducing Carbon Intensity Cleaner fuels have lower carbon intensity producing significantly fewer GHG emissions per unit of heat generated than conventional fuels. Carbon intensity includes CO,. methane. and nitrous oxide as well as black carbon. For instance charcoal cookstoves emit approximately 572 kg CO,-ea /GJ of heat delivered for cooking (Cashman et al., 2016). In contrast liguefied petroleum gas (LPG) and biogas emit about 292 and 11 ka CO.-ea /GJ respectively (Cashman et al.. 2016) and. excluding the embodied carbon. stoves that heat with electricity generated from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, or hydroelectric have zero emissions.

Tldr, over 2 billion people rely on combustible fuel for cooking.
Worldwide. cooking is responsible for an estimated 1.7 Gt CO,-ea/yr (100-yr basis) (World Health Organization [WHO1, 2023) or almost 3% of annual alobal emissions. Most of these emissions come from burning nonrenewable biomass fuels. Only the CO,-eq on a 100-yr basis is reported here due to lack of data on the relative contributions of GHGs. The International Energy Agency (IEA, 2023a) states that 2.3 billion people in 128 countries currently cook with coal. charcoal. kerosene. firewood. agricultural waste, or dung over open fires or inefficient cookstoves because they do not have the ability to regularly cook using cleaner cooking solutions. Even when sustainably harvested. biomass fuel is not climate neutral because it emits methane and black carbon (Smith, 2002)

This is bleak! 2.4 million tons of future carbon removals purchased — 1300 tons actually removed so far. Equal to taking a few hundred cars off the road
For these reasons. the technical and financial feasibility of scaling DAC to remove globally meaningful amounts of CO, from the atmosphere is low. Despite these challenges, as of September 2025 more than 30 companies have sold more than 2.4 million t of future carbon removal credits. However, less than 1,300 t CO. has actually been removed so far - or only 0.05% of these promised credits. To put this in perspective, despite spending billions of dollars, DAC has removed about as much CO, as would be saved by keeping 250-300 cars off the road for a single year.
