Ridiculous

I wonder if TFL have even been consulted. There is no other car share service on the scale of Zipcar - feels like without it, many people might opt to get a car again and as you say that's likely to mean more cars on the road. Not good.
December 1, 2025 at 3:36 PM
Shame. Almost feels like a service that is worth subsidising to keep cars off the road.

This is a real blow. I'd love to understand what is behind this decision.

Here is some coverage - www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022....

In essence, the Mayor of Tower Hamlets is ideologically opposed to traffic reduction schemes and saw an opportunity to reverse one because it wasn't permanent at the time he came into power.

Makes sense. @greennatforth.bsky.social is definitely a good starting point for you. There is also an independent candidate standing in Bethnal Green West on a pro LTN platform - ted4bgw.vote

And you could also speak with Labour too and see where they are at. I know Siraj Islam the mayoral candidate has been vocal on road safety issues and several Labour councillors have supported the SoSS campaign to save the LTNs.

Might be worth contacting @greennatforth.bsky.social who probably can give you a bit more insight on the Green plans for the election.
November 24, 2025 at 10:36 PM
I'm not sure there has been polling. I feel it is all a bit uncertain which party has the best chance of winning in various wards. Labour is probably a good bet in some wards, for example, and I think both Labour and Greens would keep the schemes. Which bit of the borough do you live in?
November 24, 2025 at 10:35 PM
So they have already got rid of a school street in Chisenhale and some elements of LTNs in Bow. The bus gate in Wapping was kept as are most of the other 33 school streets. The main issue is there have been no new schemes introduced since Aspire and Lutfur Rahman got power in 2022.
November 24, 2025 at 10:27 PM
The council isn't doing anything to the scheme until the outcome of the legal process is known. So currently the schemes are still there but very endangered.
November 24, 2025 at 9:53 PM
It's rather disappointingly undiverse...
November 24, 2025 at 12:33 PM
Yes, good point. It definitely sounds like they are thinking in a much more holistic way than most developers.
November 23, 2025 at 2:46 PM
A lot of this sounds great, my only question is given the issues with climate change whether the risk of wildfires might be an issue if you are building in forest like this.
November 23, 2025 at 10:53 AM
Hasn't changed that much really
November 20, 2025 at 9:44 AM
There are also issues around the suitability of tall buildings for some disabled people and if they become the main focus for development in the borough that could be problematic.
