I was just discussing this with some people yesterday - me and a lot of people my age (who were late teens/early twenties at the time) walked away around this time period for one reason or another. Weirdly, we all had different reasons, but there was a sense of uncertainty in the future for SW.

I read once that theater critics used to leave after act one to write their reviews, and that’s why first act finales tend to be stronger - whether this is true or not, I’m not 100% sure, but it would explain some things.
