Every person deserves dignity and healthy, delicious food to eat! We serve an average of 1,705 free meals per day. With SNAP cuts that’s going to go up. Worried about San Francisco’s families.
Something I learned from my public health days is that an easy way to improve health broadly in the U.S. would be to simply increase funding for SNAP so families could buy what they want. Too long we've restricted SNAP because of ridiculous ideas about what lower income people should eat.
SNAP assistance should be enough to cover 2000 calories a day of HEALTHY food PER PERSON. Yes I want the government to make sure everyone has wholesome, tasty, filling meals. The problem isn't that people need assistance with food, it's that the assistance is a freaking joke.

I have been trying to figure out how people recover from burnout in a system designed to have them stay burnt out.

For all the books and articles I’ve read, my friend put it best when they told me that recovery can only happen when nothing is expected of you for some time.

Ta-Nehasi Coates is doing a lot of things with this essay, but one of the most important is fearlessly using examples of anti-trans hate to describe Charlie Kirk's politics.

The contrast between his choices and those of other writers for major legacy outlets is revealing.
Charlie Kirk, Redeemed: A Political Class Finds Its Lost Cause
By ignoring the rhetoric and actions of the Turning Point USA founder, pundits and politicians are sanitizing his legacy.

I agree with what Erin says here, but would add that Newsom's recent comment citing the age of 25 is especially scary, as that's well beyond centrist-sounding "fairness in sports" rhetoric – it is a hardcore anti-trans activist talking point! it's like he is actively consuming 4thwavenow/TERF posts
A really good (and scary) point from @erininthemorning.com... for trans rights, a President Gavin Newsom could be *more* harmful than a Republican would be.

Every reputable expert I know considers mRNA vaccine technology to be one of the most revolutionary advances in medicine in our lifetimes. Its inventors won the Nobel Prize in 2023. Shutting it down now is pointless self-harm to humanity.
Release from HHS: HHS will wind down its development of the mRNA vaccine development activities under the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA).

The South is highly gerrymandered dating back to segregation in order to ensure that Republicans retain their hold. It's much more politically complex than you think.
I don't have much to add to the 'you voted for this haha' conversation that people haven't already said, but something I think a lot about is the real lack of solidarity I see with communities in the South after disasters and the profound lack of understanding about who actually lives there.
