it's pretty easy to understand it — they've spent 15 (really 25) years escalating, and have had zero costs for it. the cult of the courts is strong. even after they touched the third rail of roe, there is no serious push to impose costs on the court.
It is really, really hard to get your head around the raw hubris of the majority. They really will be destabilizing the operating structure of the entire U.S. government. Why? Because they believe they have a better idea about how the past century should've been done.
Justice Gorsuch: Is it possible--"just maybe"--that we're setting our sights far too low and we should be blowing up many more structures of modern government?

hey a fun thing is that if congress is delegating authority to an independent agency then by definition that agency is not "unaccountable." it is still accountable to congress. and it is interesting (read: extremely frustrating) to me that these people just write congress out of existence here.
Kavanaugh: Broad delegations to unaccountable agencies are dangerous for individual liberty! We have used the major questions doctrine to prevent agencies from overreaching.

The practical effect of overturning Humphrey’s will be that Republican presidents can stack the formerly independent agencies with their copartisans and SCOTUS will be cool with everything they do but when a Dem POTUS does the same Roberts et al will declare all those agencies’ actions unlawful.
In a memo John Roberts wrote just 4 yrs out of law school, he said the “time may be ripe to reconsider the existence” of independent agencies & bring them back into the executive branch. Now he’s poised to end what he has long called “a constitutional anomaly.”

the idea that a handful of conservative legal scholars have an understanding that should supersede a settlement affirmed my generations of american is astoundingly arrogant, and the idea that trump — or any president — can unilaterally overturn that settlement is just despotism

Which is it man because you can’t say ‘be more normal’ back-to-back with ‘be less judgmental’ without a hint of irony because that’s just positioning yourself as cultural authority & then demanding the type of grace that by virtue of your immediately preceding statement you refuse to extend to us
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that the Democratic Party needed to be “more culturally normal” and “less judgmental.”

without birthright citizenship in the united states, you don't have a democracy and you don't have rule of law.

revoking birthright citizenship gives fascists free rein to purge the country of literally anyone they don't like. it opens the door to atrocities and mass murder. i am not exaggerating.

Thought I timed it right but entered DL at the exact wrong time as Candlelight is getting out. Park entrance is fully backed up to the gate. So glad they still put this show on everywhere pretty much executor Club 33 members and special invitees smack in the middle of regular evening operating hours

So many folks think Christianity is a Western religion (which is prima facie false given where it started), but it actually predates the Christianity in the West in places like India.
man now i'm remembering growing up and telling evangelicals that I was an Indian Christian

this somehow blew their mind?
Fun fact: if you go to South Indian Christian communities, you will encounter multiple Georges (among more other Anglo coded names)

I know some ppl can't go to the movies. Some don't want to. That's fine!

But if you DO enjoy going to the movies, it can still be easy to fall out of the habit.

Also, do what you want! I'm not the boss of you!

Even in places like my home town (Jefferson City, MO) there is a tiny indie theater that shows good movies every month.

And, a half hour away, they have one of my favorite movie theaters IN THE WORLD, the RagTag; if you are ever in mid-MO, go to the Ragtag, it's GREAT.

It is a great era to go to the movies.

There are great movies in theaters every week.

Even if you are super picky, I bet there is at least one thing a month that you will really like.

(If you are like me and enjoy lots of different kinds of movies, there are too many!)

There are many material reasons why Netflix owning WB/HBO sucks but the pettiest one I have is they suck at distributing their own work or building up any enthusiasm. They have failed their way to the top with a strategy that doesn’t benefit the work.
