yeah I really just don’t shut up about music and film to be honest
Beatrice Dillon - Seven Reorganisations

One of my favourite records of the year. Dillon has made some of the sickest electronic music of the last few years, and now in a crazy stylistic shift, they’ve gone and composed these two utterly stunning modern classical pieces. Amazing

Last week of music (digital)

Went for a nice little holiday to Cornwall earlier this week. Still ended up listening to a fair bit of music on the drive and a lot since getting back home

Working on cutting down my 2024 AOTY list too…

Anyway, any favourite records here?

John Surman - Words Unspoken

Had a great time at Ronnie Scott’s earlier this year seeing John and the rest of this group play. Had to pick this up on the night. One of my favourite Jazz albums of the year. Gorgeous stuff

Songs: Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co.

A lovely birthday gift from one of my best mates. This one has become a real all-timer for me over the past year, just feels like music that’s always been with me

Dean Blunt - Black Metal

Perfect late Saturday night listen. Love this record so much. Feel like this one is a bit of a modern classic

Cecil Taylor - Silent Tongues

Some of the most insane solo piano music ever recorded. Just imagine being at Montreux in 74 and hearing this live. My head would’ve come clean off. Really can’t put into words how much I love this record.

Beatriz Ferreyra - UFO Forest +

Was lucky enough to see one of my favourite concrète composers perform this year and I had to pick this up. The title track of this record is a bit of an all-timer, and the other works of tape/computer music featured on here are just mind-blowing

Richard Dawson - The Ruby Cord

I still think this is such a mesmerising folk epic. The 41 minute opener The Hermit is especially gorgeous. A record I love to come back to when the frost starts to appear. Also that album art is just so sick

Moin - You Never End

Think my ears are still ringing from their crazy good London gig last month. Always loved Moin’s use of sampling, but I think the addition of vocal guests here works really well. Just more insanely tight post-hardcore from one of the best trios of the decade

We are now deep into Low ‘I Could Live in Hope’ and ‘The Curtain Hits The Cast’ season

Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear

The sun is out and I just felt like basking in the light of this hypnotic classic. One of the first records I ever bought

Sun Ra - Lanquidity

Properly transcendent stuff. Could be my favourite Ra record, though there’s just so many heaters to choose from. My god, when the group of voices come in after the most delicate piano on the closer ‘There Are Other Worlds’, goosebumps

Myriam Gendron - Ma délire - Songs of love, lost & found

I picked up one of my favourite records of the decade at Myriam’s beautiful show at Oto on Monday. When she started playing ‘Go Away From My Window’ I immediatley welled up with tears. Utterly spellbinding folk music
