It looks like this might be it for the Chiefs. They’re going to have to retool—I think it’s over for this version of the Mahomes era.
Another drop. Unreal how mistake prone this team is. So many letdown moments this season

Based on what I was hearing, I was surprised how much I enjoyed Jay Kelly. Not film of the year level, but I went for it.

i know the internet likes to pretend that someone saying something stupid retroactively invalidates their entire creative oeuvre but quentin tarantino has made some of the rawest movies of all time and pretending otherwise isn’t a marker of superhuman moral clarity.

Watched Don Hertzfeldt’s The World of Tomorrow films all together for the first time. Dude really hit on something with these animated shorts, especially in one sitting.

Great films.

The binary mindset that we either get a Netflix/WB or a Paramount/WB is *completely untrue*. Warner Bros without its dying cable channels can be a profitable company, as it was this year. All of these merger offers are illegal, and state AGs can challenge them and win.

Here's who has come out against the Netflix/Warner Bros. deal:
-Writers Guild
-Directors Guild
-SAG-AFTRA
-documentary filmmakers
-theater owners
So all of Hollywood.
They aren't opposing this because they secretly want a Paramount merger, it's because the deal will harm their livelihoods.

Oh damn I waited too long to preorder a The Movie Orgy copy from Vinegar Syndrome. All sold out. Do they ever put them back on sale when they sell out?

Scorsese interview: Man isn't meant to have immortality. He did that to himself, that's what the church taught me. But maybe if you promise you're only gonna use your eternal life to make art it should be okay. I don't know.
Tarantino interview: Keanu Reeves should have been stillborn.

For years, I figured that splitting KILL BILL up into two movies had been the right move. The two films felt so different. But then I saw KILL BILL: THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR, and I was floored. It really is a modern-day ODYSSEY. www.vulture.com/article/kill...
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair Is a Modern-Day Odyssey
Once released as two films, Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman’s revenge epic has been restored to its full scale. And it’s a revelation.

This is a wrinkle in the whole thing, for sure.
Look I'm not typically a glass-half-full kind of guy but pause for just a second to consider the one big upside of the Netflix/WBD deal:

Indisputably evil motherfucker Larry Ellison didn't get something he wanted, and he's certainly furious about it.

The whiplash of seeing everyone rightly excited by the Kill Bill release and everyone very rightly trashing Tarantino for his Paul Dano opinion shows the contradiction he holds in MY heart—dude makes movies I greatly enjoy but is one of the most obnoxious people to ever live.

Frankenstein was the #1 release in Kansas City’s Screenland Armour theater all year, bigger than even the blockbusters they showed, showing that it would have done well with more theaters around the city.
Keep in mind that Frankenstein completely sold out screenings at the TIFF Lightbox and its few IMAX screenings were often full.

What isn't consumer-friendly is relegating your most anticipated movie's release to few theaters in a single city, especially something as high profile as Frankenstein.
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos says the streamer has no "opposition" to releasing Warner Bros. movies in theaters, but hints that "windows will evolve to be much more consumer friendly."

it's how we end up talking about Sinners and Nope like they're naturally aligned, instead of talking about how Nope, Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Sinners together mark the dawn of a new age of existentialist blockbusters
black creators of various stripes are often forced into categories so as to make them legible and (i’d say) shrink the ambitions of their work.
