I remember when the last American veteran of WWI died, and the newspaper quoted him remembering his time in London before being shipped off to France, and how he had watched a military paraded that included survivors of the Light Brigade

This is amazing:

A direct image of the shadow of a black hole.
A direct image of the hot, swirling gas circling and falling into it.
And brand-new images showing an apparent magnetic flip around the black hole, a sign of turbulent, tumultuous changes. 🧪🔭

Very sad news; it was a great privilege to work beside him in a small way.
I'm sad to report that Rainer (Rai) Weiss passed away yesterday at age 92. Rai developed the design for LIGO, he and Kip got it funded, trained countless researchers, and received the 2017 Nobel Prize. Rai always had time for students and treated us as equals. May his memory be a blessing

This description would seem to explain a lot
There is a quasi-religion in Silicon Valley that views AI as godlike. This faith has always been parallel to Evangelical Christianity: salvation (transhumanism), the rapture (the technological singularity), and demons (Roko's Basilisk)

Lately the AI faith has fully fused with Christian Nationalism.

It's been 12 hours so maybe everyone has moved on, but I created a graph with the all the missing lines. Visually, you could say White men without college degrees were ahead of 10 groups in 1980 (5th place out of 16), and only 7 groups by 2022 (9th place).
