I reacted similarly regarding Eschenbach, was shocked. but... apparently the federal court judged previously that it's ok to forbid a teacher to wear a scarf. I was puzzled, and shocked, but one shouldn't dismiss the supreme court's judgment too fast www.geneve.ch/themes/cultu...

Sounds very, very realistic. Most of voters are not duped by politicians, but know what they stand for. And therefore, agree. Especially when "what they stand for" is not about political measures, but about an attitude.

I view it as a reason for collective shame.

But I like the idea of reversing the "race to the bottom" by focussing on a global readiness to act.

The "It" seems to refer to "mankind" a.k.a. "humanity", not "humanities".

The distinction is important, to avoid the impression this is some bashing of the humanities.
