• ゴイサギ → Black-crowned night heron

They’re different species, but both are “night herons.”

After I took that photo (a brief moment of serenity), I walked back down the hill and through a bunch of reporters who had just gathered. Turns out the Akasaka stabbing suspect lived a few doors down from me. He was arrested early this morning.

Not so much in Tokyo. They're curious, though, sometimes stopping to stare at my dog for a while. The persimmons are ripe on the trees now, and the Tanuki get hopped up on the sugar at night, yelping and keeping us awake.
