10-DAY: Light snow starts by mid to late afternoon Saturday, intensifying overnight and leaving 3-5" of flakes in Toledo (5-8" northwest). 35-40 mph gusts will lead to blowing/drifting snow Sunday AM, though some melting will occur as temps rise to the mid-30s.

PREDICTOR: Light snow will begin by mid to late afternoon Saturday (near the end of The Game), intensifying in the evening/overnight before switching to rain near dawn Sunday. 3-5" remains our call for Lucas County, though some of that will then melt/compact by an inch or so through Sunday AM.

JUST IN: A winter storm warning has been issued for Lucas County, and many NW Ohio counties west of I-75, through most of Sunday. 5-8" of snow is possible northwest of Toledo, closer to the 3-5" range for the city itself (2-3" generally toward Tiffin, Upper Sandusky etc. to the southeast).

Those wicked midweek winds topped out near 60 mph in some NW Ohio/SE Michigan cities! While Thanksgiving will be less breezy, it'll still ruffle some turkey feathers with gusts up to 40 mph.

RADAR: A thin but potent snow band is rolling through Lucas/northern Wood County at this 4pm hour. Watch for more flakes developing off of Lake Michigan through Thanksgiving (1"+ near Hillsdale, closer to 1/2" Toledo) -- and drive with care!

3:30pm Thu update: Findlay and Lima have the highest observed gusts of the afternoon so far at 53 mph (Lima's came during the 1pm hour). Toledo Express has also clocked in at 52 mph.

Over the next 48 hours or so, snow will be mainly concentrated up toward Hillsdale (lake effect from Lake Michigan) -- though a couple other narrow bands digging through NW Ohio can't be discounted, either.

For the record, it's estimated that the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in 25-35 foot waves... and these figures below are for "significant wave height", or the mean height of the highest third of the waves. That translates to a good 15% of those whitecaps EXCEEDING those heights. 🌊

In addition, those 45-50 mph SW gusts will whip up waves around 10' by the Lake Erie Islands, and close to double that height the farther NE you sail (or would on a nice day... 0/10, do not recommend).

REMINDER: Not that there will be many boaters out there tomorrow, but by Wednesday evening, western Lake Erie could see lake levels drop 5-6 feet from their current (Tues eve) mark! That "seiche" will also make for a 10-12 ft difference between Toledo and Buffalo.
Wednesday PM forecast, western Lake Erie: 50" below low water datum. Exposed lakebed likely.
