If I went to watch a really good play, and the next night was the exact same play but the names of the characters were changed, and then the next night, the same play with a new backdrop and the names changed, and so on and so forth, then I don't think the critics would be kind after 14 nights :)

Yep. But some series, like GTA evolved the format (up to 4 and 5 at least, 6 looks like 5 but more).
Counterexamples are FIFA which just seems to have remained boringly predicable since 1998.

But AC seems to have stagnated early. It's a solid game, and I loved Altaïr and Ezio, but I got bored.

I know from my experience, after playing AC2, I started AC3 and realised I was just playing the same formula wearing a different coat, so quit. I've not bothered to play an AC since. Is the world is coming to the same conclusion?

You're so right! Theres so much skill in getting the shading right on the rocks. I can cover a multitude of sins with the grass powder, but if the shadows on the rocks look janky, the scene looks janky. I might borrow that photo for my next mini diorama:)

I once asked why he misspelled "read" as "red", a bizarre typo for a thing that's all about the written word. He replied that it read better as "well-red".. I'm starting to suspect it's not a typo at all....

I thought, for shits and giggles, I'd take a fun little ZX Spectrum BASIC type-in that produces a vibrant Kaleidoscope effect, and convert it to Assembly, a fun little project. In the end, I had to put a delay in to slow it down. It runs 1,000x faster than the original BASIC :)

Honestly, this is one of those cases where faster isn't necessarily better. Watching the Kaleidoscope grow from the middle is kinda interesting. It produces some neat patterns.
