One of the biggest scams RTO ever perpetuated is that you’re never guaranteed work after move. I can imagine over time there’s going to be lawsuits and all sorts of agreements as part of contract negotiations.
What a difference four months makes. Imagine selling your house, moving for work and then being laid off anyway.

owning the libs by showing up to counterprotest in my clown car
I’ve seen just one counter-protester at No Kings San Diego. He’s got a Trump 2024 flag and this guy has been following him around for probably an hour playing Benny Hill and circus music.

Salesforce (like IBM, Oracle, and HP) continue their march to enshittification and ruining software. So sad to see how fast slack fell though.
One more reminder that Slack is a terrible choice for communities, and extorts even nonprofits. Even when it’s one teaching teens to code, for free.

Hack Club is moving to Mattermost. They really have no choice.

Just a poor taste how Slack demands $50K in a week, no real notice

Speedrunning being worse than Meloni in Italy. Literally moving back to Italy seems better.
It is genuinely humiliating as an America to have this sour, cowardly, narcissistic lout represent us and to know that so many Americans applaud conduct like this. Just deeply embarrassing.
REPORTER: How much wealthier are you now than when you returned to the WH?

TRUMP: The deals I made for the most part, other than what my kids are doing - they're running my business - were made before. Where are you from?

R: Australia

T: In my opinion you are hurting Australia right now. Quiet.

Amusing how 99% of people using LLMs forget how these things work:

They are advanced probability machines. They generate the next most likely token (word) based in the input and their training.

Under the hood, it’s a giant matrix multiplication that has eerily good output.

JPMorgan CIO Lori Beer told the New York Times she has shut down hundreds of GenAI projects. Enterprises that entered GenAI pilots with dreams of transformation are now retreating, having discovered ballooning costs and marginal productivity gains.

One of the worst aspects of AI/LLMs is that those of us with deep engineering experience will widen the gap with those incoming without it because companies simply won’t hire fresh engineering grads anymore. It’s not good, long term thinking.
part of my resentment towards LLMs is to do with them crowding out anything else we could be talking about. there are so many things I could be reading to get better at my craft but I'm presented with "you should actually get worse at it on purpose because nothing matters any more"

This is exactly how I see AI these days as beneficial: super charged, outcome based search that gives you great starter points to begin solving a problem. Not replacing engineering, etc.

It’s been fascinating to watch companies double down on RTO. Engineers were initially stuck having no choice due to market conditions but now that things are opening up slightly, the amount of talent loss I’ve seen in the last two weeks has been staggering. #remotework #devops
