I’m typically fairly responsible.

Until the data suggest high aurora potential. Then I drop everything and go, forgetting mittens and to lock my house and eat dinner. I drive recklessly on dark unfamiliar roads for a closed park to stand 5 hours in the dark by myself. But… look at those lights!
This is my last and longest of three aurora threads, for the final substorm I saw from Columbus Ohio USA. It was by far the most brilliant and the strongest (at one point visible *south* of us)! It started ~11:30PM local time and lasted a full half-hour. Just unbelievably stunning!

Robbie Gibb was appointed by Boris Johnson, he was an editorial adviser to GB News and a director of communications for Theresa May. He is not neutral or impartial.

hung out with some beetle people, mentioned fairy shrimp, and they mentioned a specialist ground beetle which is a fairy shrimp predator. how can you know that much of the story and then not know the best part, which is that the beetles only hunt at night because the shrimp GLOW IN THE DARK

As it’s Armistice Day, I wanted to share an image of one of the most astonishing things I’ve ever seen in an archive:
This is the pen which ended the First World War.
It was used by British Admiral Rosslyn Wemyss to sign the Armistice on the 11th November 1918 in the Forest of Compiègne.
