REALLY hoping that 1) someone has done Chicane work in this vein or 2) someone (you included) is doing work right now in this vein.

Totally need it in my life.

I'll bet @latinxfiles.bsky.social or @vrukaslt.bsky.social or @scorussdun.bsky.social will have a better handle on this question.

Oh, snap, I’m literally translating these into Spanish!

I mean, not specifically? @zotz.bsky.social has Dream Rider, which has a few atompunk elements, as does the work of @ernesthogan.bsky.social … I’m sure there are works of Chicano Futurism that could fit the bill, but I’m momentarily at a loss

Not yet, I haven't, no.

BTW, “cemithualtin” means "all those of the courtyard," meaning everyone living in a family compound, which consists of a central, open, communal area surrounded by multiple homes. This was the organization of extended families most common in Mesoamerica before the invasion of the Spanish.

And while I love the Matron—and the process of working with @monicacomics.bsky.social and Drew Edwards to bring her to life—the lesbian college freshmen who stry to stop her are probably my faves: Roz Krenek, the cannibal killer's granddaughter, and Sam Maldonado, who dreams of joining the FBI.

Right as she tells her she loves her ... so messed up.

Ugh, yes.

(I know it's because of the source material, which is why I went in prepared, but it still feels like making the gays suffer. I figure straight folks will have a different read, but the author himself said that Elphaba and Glinda have a thing for each other.)

And, ultimately, the viewer frustration of watching two women so clearly in love with each other sacrifice that love for unhappy lives (even in the service of others) is so very 20th-century. Ugh.

Why can't the freaking Scarecrow rule while THEY run away together?

“This coming thing” or “this coming one.” Perhaps more colloquially “the one that’s on its way.”
