I was there ages ago. It was a lot of fun. A friend, who lives in Tucker, took me here...

I like how this shot of a downy woodpecker came out.

I recently resumed finding potential points of interest for Pokemon Go. I've been scouring maps and walking through parks, campuses, and towns that have been overlooked. I emailed a professor about an arboretum map and another about a poetry-in-nature project. Both were enthusiastic.

I embrace the pleasure that comes from being an amateur photographer. I know I would have to learn a lot before I could come close to the sort of shots the pros get. But sometimes, a photo happens to look very nice, and I like to share those. Here's one from this morning of a downy woodpecker.

I'm happy to announce that the local red-winged blackbirds have started getting ready for mating and nesting.

In a slight departure from my posts of birds and stuff like that, here's something political:

I suspect whoever named the hairy woodpecker never considered that possibility that someday people would try to get middle-school boys interested in birding.

Wow -- those snow geese cast a HUGE shadow...

I love how this photo of a dark-eyed junco came out.

Like a cardinal in the wind...

My daughter made this for me out of Sculpey way back when she was a kid. She used a marble for the crystal ball. I keep it on my bookcase.

Six gees a laying...

My two favorite winter visitors are adding a touch of loveliness to the dreary, wet days. Dark-eyed junco and white-throated sparrow.

I love taking photos of birds, and totally embrace my amateur skill level while I admire the stunning shots of the professionals. It's nice, after decades of writing, to do something creative without giving any thought to trying to sell it. Here's a shot of a cedar waxwing. They're so cool looking.

I've been here since 2023, but have posted sparsely because I'm not sure what persona I want to present here or what façade I want to costume myself with. I'm scattered on Twitter, with jokes, bird photos, and political rants. Maybe I should try being a motivator here. LMK is that works for you.

I had no idea how brussels sprouts were grown until 2015, when I saw them in their natural form a farmer's market in Cooperstown. (Went there to tour the Omegang brewery, but loved the Baseball Hall of Fame.) Very cool looking.

Lest I be accused of posting nothing but bird photos, here are a couple of non-avian shots from a place that enthralled me, the butterfly garden at the Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans.

I had a breakfast meating with New Jersey's most famous video-game character.

Fuck it...
January 13, 2024 at 4:10 PM
I haven't posted much, because I haven't figured out who I am here. Writer, birder, satirist, asshole, jokester, ally, lazy activist...? On twitter, I'm so unfocused. For now, I'll stick with birds I've shot. I think this photo of a cedar waxwing dining al fresco is one of the best I've taken.

I'm thinking this block of suet, which is basically rendered fat laced with a bit of corn, is as close to a perfect avatar as I'll ever find.
