We should definitely cut the maximum wage for pro-Russian grifters, like by imposing a 98% tax on their worldwide income. We could call it a “dacha tax” or something.

And what irritates me is the assumption that the UK is somehow special and deserves to be treated like a current EU member. It isn’t and it won’t be.

Of course not. But after such an acrimonious UK exit from the EU, there is IMHO no appetite to entertain a UK application to join until it’s clear that the political consensus in the UK is pro-EU.

I suppose the easiest way to reduce immigration is to make the country so awful that nobody wants to come here or stay here. Genius!

Would the UK be ready to walk away from all those “wonderful” 🙄 trade deals done since Brexit? Joining a CU with 🇪🇺 would presumably require that.

True, but I imagine the Irish government didn’t want to take any chances, especially after 🇬🇧 ministers (Patel?) openly discussed starving out 🇮🇪 in order to get their way.
