Quality comfort reading indeed, which I may re-read over the Christmas period.

What I like about this census is the inclusion of "Absence" in the record and that we know Rene exists at the time of its taking. This is not quite the case with UK records. I wonder if he reappears in later census! Seems to be of working age so poss link to occupation/profession if employed.

David Olusoga is correct...and to add further clarification: Mike Mountain Horse "signed on the dotted line..." 23 May 1916.

This is clearly shown on the online Canadian FWW Personnel Records for Mike Mountain Horse and his enlistment in the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF).

Yes - although this may change if I go back and listen to Golden Years, Sound and Vision, or John, I'm Only Dancing. I loved Bowie's cover of Sorrow (though preferred Lulu's single version of The Man Who Sold the World). Twenty minutes later... 😀

Thankyou. I was touched by your piece on Mary Bishop's artwork and her time/treatment at Netherne.

(The forced process of needing to "grieve properly" had a life-long impact on an elderly person I knew who disliked doll's eyes after being shown her dead mother at the age of three in 1918).

The actions surrounding the death of Mary Bishop's father on 27 May 1918 as found in the war diaries of 6th Northumberland Fusiliers. Padre George Bernard H Bishop is commemorated at the Soissons Memorial, France. Images include Strength of Battalion 1-31 May 1918 and Casualty List 27-30 May 1918.

There's a connection here to Leeds and the Special Collections at the University of Leeds - including the late Chris Sheppard, who was Head of Special Collections (and a thoroughly nice guy).
