Ahmet Ümit’s The Dervish Gate: Thought I was reading a Turkish crime thriller. Turns out it’s a treatise on Sufi love, human love, and Turkish authors’ fondness for 19th-century Russian-style philosophizing. Entertaining in its own way. A bit messy. 3/5.
