We will temporarily pause publication of Washington History and will not release a spring 2026 issue as we assess alternate formats and publishing schedules. Our work to connect people with DC’s history will continue through new online resources, blog posts, and digital programming.

Built from the fall 2024 issue of Washington History—which focused on Home Rule—the curriculum draws on historical scholarship and our archival collections to highlight the voices, debates, and organizing traditions that have shaped civic life in DC.

We believe learning shouldn’t sit behind a paywall. This curriculum opens new doors for classrooms across the city and supports students in understanding their own role in shaping civic life in DC. This project reflects core DC History Center values: access, dignity, and community.
