Users can choose not to engage, to mute or block freely on any of these platforms, AFAIK. Threads & Twitter both have millions of users. If their experiences are bad, perhaps it is less because of the platform than because of their choices.

Users have choices. Mastodon lets you hook up to a particular community. Bluesky has a wide array of tools to curate your experience. Even Twitter is usable if you take the effort. I've relied on lists of different kinds of posters, and though I rarely visit anymore, those lists still work my way.

That is, after all, the entire point of atproto: If you don't like the Bluesky app, you can move to a different app. And if you don't like atproto, you can go to Threads or Mastodon or back to the bad place. You won't be able to keep your history with those, but NO app is going to please everybody.
