New POLITICO report: Trump admin is “exploring options to sell parts of the government’s $1.6T student loan portfolio to the private market.”

We're announcing our willingness to purchase the portfolio for its market value. We will then subsequently cancel the debt.

🔥Tenants are striking—not against rent, but against rent debt.

Former residents of corporate giant Equity Residential say bogus fees + predatory practices left them owing thousands they don’t actually owe.

If you owe back rent debt to Equity Residential or *any* corporate landlord in the country, you can now go to backrentdebt.org and begin a debt-dispute process. We just created a new, free, first-of-its-kind tool to help tenants and debtors fight back.

Just Now: A group former tenants who all owe crushing amounts of rent debt —from $200 to over $50,000—just announced themselves on debt-strike.

They will refuse to pay their unjust debts to Equity Residential, the 5th largest corporate landlord in the United States.

Today, we're launching the first ever rental debt strike in U.S. history against Equity Residential, the 5th largest corporate landlord in the nation.

9 brave folks —the EQR 9— will collectively refuse to pay their rental debt.

Equity Residential (EQR) has an annual income of ~$2 billion.

Because we are launching a debt-strike against EQR.

Live in an Equity Residential (EQR) building?

Join us by going to eqrdtu.org for a novel fight.

Who should use this tool?

1. Anyone who owes rent debt to their current or former landlord.

2. Tenants and former tenants of other landlords, particularly corporate landlords, who want a written account of their practices to help you fight back.

If you have rent debt, you can use the tool to generate letters you can send to various actors as part of your debt dispute process. If thousands of us dispute our debts—and inform regulators of these disputes—it will drastically raise the cost of collecting these debts.
debtcollective.bsky.social
We just built a NEW tech tool that *any current or former tenant* in the entire country can use for free — it will generate a legal letter for you that reports to collections agencies, credit bureaus and regulatory agencies.

Go to reportmylandlord.org to fight back.

A small group of former Equity Residential tenants is launching a first-of-its-kind back rent debt strike that will go public in early October. The campaign's broader strategy is to challenge what organizers see as systematic abuse of renters.

Keep your eye on this. A decade ago, Debt Collective launched a student debt strike. Mainstream media scoffed and laughed. Then billions got canceled. We’re repeating that playbook with back rent debt: strike, shift moral culpability, target bad actors, change consumer protection law for the better.
