death to spotify

the only good technology of the last 100 years??

i put all my music on a cheap USB drive that i carry with me. easy offline access. not without its drawbacks. finding new music is always a challenge and that's the only thing i miss about spotify. but we managed it before spotify existed, we can still do it.
Spotify is garbage on every count: Its treatment of artists, its ICE advertising, the CEO's investment in military AI, its leading role in the commodification and AI slopification of music, its terrible audio quality—you name it.

So I quit, and put together a complete guide to getting off Spotify:
How to quit Spotify
This Black Friday, here's a guide to finding the best Spotify alternative

when i turn off my window unit heater, before it shuts off it first needs to blast a bunch of cold air into the room first for some reason, like it's mad at me for not needing its services anymore

just left Hamnet halfway through, first time i've ever done that. but i genuinely can't tell if it was a good movie i just don't have the patience for or if it really was as tediously boring and manipulative as it felt to me

we do not appreciate how cool the international space station is. it might be the coolest things humans have ever done

in film school do you get extra points for including a shot of a needle injection or what is the obsession with showing that

people are missing the point. even if you don't like tarantino, we absolutely need pointless bitchiness and petty jabs between celebs. what else is there, really? that's it, i'm afraid. like it or not, tarantino is keeping this country together

normally not the kind of shit i want to read, and while i can't find it funny, given that it's real, but if a character in a movie searched "how to dispose of a body" on the website "murdermurdermurder dot com" it may be considered a little on the nose www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
'How to saw a body.' 'Can a body decompose in a plastic bag.': Brian Walshe's search history detailed at murder trial
Dozens of searches carried out on Walshe's laptop sought information about dead bodies and dismemberment, crime scene cleanup and computer disposal.

came home after a 10 hour shift to discover my property management company came and changed the exterior locks on my building with no advance notice. in fact no notice at all. no call, email, or text message. i was locked out and simply lucky a neighbor happened to be there to let me in.

ALTMAN: And so you can use Sora to generate interesting videos of you and your friends, all with AI.
FALLON: (giggling) So, heh, so that's a video of me in space, wow!
ALTMAN: Exactly.
FALLON: Could you generate a video of me where I'm not just a useful clown for fascism? Where my work has meaning?

everything is precedent, everything is normalization
Trump is summarily executing people suspected of being drug dealers, without providing any proof.

How close are we to Trump ordering the execution of Americans he considers opponents? https://robertreich.substack.com/p/trumps-illegal-executions

there's always going to be new tech that can be transformative, but at this point tech as we know it is completely stagnant. to justify their jobs, workers and managers are just tinkering, making things more complex and less good for the users. i'm sure there's a hope AI can make them relevant again

i try not to give AI shit much oxygen but this image gets funnier and funnier the more i look at it. from the row of triple bathrooms to the Master R̸̡̡̛̘̺̩̳̱̺͖̗̤̫̲̪̅̐̂̓́͐͘ǒ̶̩̮͓̹̿ͅk̴̡̛̛̟̺̜͍̩̒͂̀̎͝ś̷̨̮̩̟̮̝͙̞̘̹̱̹̀́͂̓̓̀͒͋͋͘̚͠͝ͅn̸̝̘͕̘̰͕̺͓̝̺̣͍̊̎͆̈, this is just delightful

All 50,000 panels of the National AIDS Memorial Quilt has been fully digitized.

You can search Duane's name and see the panel he made. And someone else made a panel for him, too.
