Stately homo 🏳️‍🌈 & past professional foreigner (🇮🇹🇫🇷🇷🇺🇺🇦🇹🇷🇮🇩🇧🇷) Now work for myself. You know the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse? I’m their fluffer. Genetic hæmochromatosis patient. Yorkshire, England
And I like the fact Tilda Swinton invented a cocktail for them - “the Usual” - in their Wilde’s Bar*. My fav Crème de Violette; lime juice & 🍾

This last couple of nights I’ve been staying at the (tiny) hotel I always choose (if the choice is mine) in Paris: l’Hôtel, rue des Beaux-Arts. Needless to say it causes endless ‘mirth’ with taxistes: «mais bien sûr monsieur, mais quel hôtel en rue des Beaux-Arts, comment s'appelle-t-il ?»

Followed by a *sensational* lamb chop of *huge* intensities of just; mint; a broccoli 🥦 purée; à confit garlic clove; more anchovy. That sauce was deep, complex and super. & a pud of amaretto ice cream with a hazelnut mi-cuit. An eau de vie to finish 🙃

Last night I *feasted* at Le Christine, beginning with an olive 🫒 (!) an “aspiration” of anchovy & a Spanish vermouth mousse followed by a heavenly sardine; with caviar, roasted japanese caviar; lardo & smoked beurre blanc

But for sheer theatricality, the ‘immersive room’ of Hockney’s opera sets will be incredibly memorable
August 20, 2025 at 4:49 PM
It for me the highlight are Hockney’s superb Normandy landscapes, many from ‘l’époch pando’
August 20, 2025 at 4:49 PM
It does seem rather odd to come to Paris to see wonderfully evocative Yorkshire landscapes

Popped over to Paris to catch one of the last days of the epic ‘Hockney 25’ retrospective @ Fondation Louis Vuitton. What a breathtakingly good show!

(“Hello sexy!)

My new fish filleting knife 👌… lovely weight to the handle. The curve of the tip will work better than the straighter blade of my otherwise lethally-awesome meat boning knife

Aesthetical day: such a gr8 luncheon with chums; collected the reframe of my new drawing by an artist I collect (well, the 3rd 😂); & peonies (!).

I ❤️ English peonie season: brief, blousy & utterly gorgeous 😊

& Yorkshire wild 🐇 defrosting for a 🍄‍🟫, 🌿 fricassé & a terrine 😋

Judging by my fridge, it’s totally asparagus season 😂

White asparagus - a luncheon thing / homemade hollandaise sauce - but feeling risotto for the green asparagus

But natch my pee smells like clotted cream this time of year 😂

Really quite fascinated at the extent the MAGA/ 🇷🇺 etc., community (on the other place) really target/try to negate that “North Korean troops were in Ukraine”

Why?

Had a chinoiserie armoire delivered today. Blokes positioned it but said “we don’t unpack; not our job”

So walked to village chippie, showed 1st pic & said: “for £50 could one of you come home with me; unpack or & get rid of the packing?”

#EverybodyCheered No but I got a lad to do it there & then!

Aviator cocktail: a work in progress…

Currently needs more gin; less crème de violette & just 1/2 a teaspoon of luxardo maraschino liqueur. Steady on the 🍋‍🟩 to preserve the violette!

My dog 🐕 - Parsifal - is bonkers 😂

Couple of years ago I was pleasured to macerate some raspberries in a bottle of gin. Just opened after 2 years+ of their juices mingling

Not bloody bad! All the joies of raspberry, without that slightly cloying sweetness that ‘industrial’ fruit guns often have imo

My favourite daily use treat - yellow gold & black lacquer, ribbed - is a good example of this

No longer able to buy refills in the UK, I had to splaff £150 & buy 10 to meet their post-Brexit paperwork hassle 🙄

Was given a trio of mini-‘tasters’ of Carluccio aperols etc.,… which I’d rather forgotten

*Very* pleasured by this darkly herby (not too sweet) vermouth. Quite joyous with a light tonic tbh!

Big Boy’s bottle immediately ordered! (But via Amazon 😧 as Carluccio was ‘sold out’ 🤷🏻‍♂️)

But who doesn’t enjoy a fabulous festive duck? 🦆
December 25, 2024 at 6:14 PM
Mine too alas! I should have used both ovens: one for the slow-cooked duck; the other for the veggies
December 25, 2024 at 4:33 PM
And then the traditional 🎄 starter: 🦐 in a Bloody Mary dressing
December 25, 2024 at 2:01 PM
Luncheon in two halves today: duck & pud after The King

But, first, a pre-starter of simplest sort - thanks to the wonderful English Truffe Company - just marinated with my favourite olive oil and favourite salt; enjoyed just with bread

Well hurrah! Look what Santa has brought me!! 🎄 🍨
