Ok this is an epic hack. GM offered rewards points that could, among other things, be put toward your car loan. They also offered free points for filling out surveys and such. By creating a lot of fake accounts and filling out a whole lot of surveys, people could pay off their entire car loans.

What are you doing this morning? I'm installing an OTA update on a night light

I heard it’s 38% chupacabra meat but they have to keep it secret.

National parks have SO MANY people from other countries (since they get real vacations!)

And they spend a lot of money on hotels, food, souvenirs, etc.

This is unbelievably dumb, it will destroy entire tourist towns

Hofstadter is still around, and was pretty critical of ChatGPT when it came out

But since, he has acknowledged it may have some degree of "antisphexishness"

The subway in Glasgow is even narrower - just 11 feet compared to the Boring Company 12 feet

Every single inch of tunnel diameter adds quadratically to the cost, so if you can keep the tunnel small, it’s vastly cheaper

It probably wouldn’t cause a crash, unless other things went wrong (like all the luggage loaded wrong too)

But it could cause an uncomfortable situation!

Every letter in the Tetris Font is a real Tetris game situation

And you thought you had a lot to juggle in your open-source project.

Each number has a different pattern of vertical lines

The scanners could be made with early 1960s technology, no lasers required

Also easy to print uniquely since each number is just a separate thing (unlike a barcode)
November 24, 2025 at 7:59 PM
Wait does everyone know how MICR works? Developed long before barcodes, it’s a number written in special magnetic ink that can be decoded very simply (just looking at the pattern of vertical lines) and is still human readable

The DevTerm seems to be the same aesthetic, but at a price point that’s more of a fun toy rather than a serious work purchase

I’m not going to buy this, but I’m tempted…

Ryzen 9 with 8 cores, 96gb ram, built-in mechanical keyboard, new fully open source linux distro

there were seven finalists that made it to the standards committee

3 of the 7 were round, so the scanner could scan from any angle

but IBM proposed the boring square barcode and they were so huge that they won the selection process
November 24, 2025 at 7:31 AM
did you know standard barcodes almost ended up being round instead of square?

and it's fashionable, too!

working on making it so you can display any web page on your low power e-ink display ... it's rendered on the server, and the screenshot is then streamed to the device

There is only one plane with a wingspan larger than the Spruce Goose

It's the Stratolaunch Roc, built by Paul Allen and pretty much abandoned when he died

So there's a long history of rich dudes with a dream coming up with totally impractical airplanes
