I’m in Palm Springs, CA, at Benevity Live for a plenary panel on Nonprofits at a Crossroads: the Way Forward. I urged the audience of 1500 corporate donors to use their positions of power/privilege to speak out, fund, and advocate to protect nonprofits in this time of existential threats.

❗️BREAKING! Judge grants @NatlCouncilNPs and co-plaintiffs' motion for a *nationwide preliminary injunction* preventing the Trump administration from freezing, halting, or broadly pausing funding awarded under the Inflation Reduction Act or the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act!

The President of the United States declares an “anti-democratic takeover orchestrated” by orgs (like National Council of Nonprofits) suing to stop the admin’s reckless, lawless actions.

He signed this memo in the Oval Office, making attempted intimidation official WH policy.

We won’t back down.

Last night we filed a NEW motion and declaration in our case of NCN v OMB. We're asking the judge to clarify that Continuum of Care (CoC) grants that’ve been awarded are covered under the court’s Preliminary Injunction preventing the administration from implementing broad federal funding freezes.

If you’ve any doubt the nonprofit sector faces an unprecedented existential threat, see yesterday’s Joe Rogan interview with Elon Musk.

Remember - while his power is significant, ours is greater. When we unite to protect & advance the entire nonprofit sector, we are formidable, and we will win.

30 years ago today, I left home to spend 3.5 years as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Zambia. An extraordinary experience.

Big day. Hearing at US District Cout on our case, National Council of Nonprofits et al v. Office of Management and Budget, to halt the administration’s reckless attempted freeze of all federal grants and loans. Many thanks to Democracy Forward for their work preparing for and in court today!

This week, I was also live on CNN, sharing the potentially catastrophic impacts of the White House’s attempted directive to halt nearly all federal spending.

I was live on ABC News to talk about the impact that President Trump’s freeze on all federal funding would have had on nonprofit organizations, and the people and communities they serve. You can watch the clip here: abcnews.go.com/Politics/vid...

🚨OMB sent a memo to federal agencies this evening, requiring all federal loans and grants be paused by 5pm tomorrow. 🚨

Financial assistance is defined here to include all federal grants/loans except those that provide direct assistance to individuals.

By 5pm yesterday, all federal agencies were directed to shut down any DEI and LGBTQ+ equity programs, remove DEI and LGBTQ+ webpages, put federal employees working on such programs on administrative leave, and terminate federal contracts for DEI and LGBTQ+ work.

Last day at NLIHC! I’m leaving with a full heart, so much gratitude and love, and a deep optimism for what’s next - for NLIHC, the housing justice movement, and the broader nonprofit sector. While there are challenges ahead, we’ll be made stronger from them, and we will persevere.

Onward!

It’s been an honor and privilege to work with Rep Maxine Waters during my leadership of NLIHC. She is, as always, so generous in writing me this letter. I look forward to many more years of partnership with her in my new position leading the National Council of Nonprofits.

Received these lovely holiday cards from POTUS and VPOTUS and wanted to share them with you. The card from the President and First Lady is particularly beautiful this year, and I love that they close with "love".

Happy holiday season.
