Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Yellow-necked Spur Fowl, Pearl-spotted Owlet, Giant Kingfisher (That list would have made for a good day at Pennington Flash) #BirdOfTheDay#spotted#birds#photography#EastCoastKin
Always love a Kestrel and still haven't recovered from seeing 'Kes' 50 years ago. #birds#photography#EastCoastKin#birdphotography#ukbirding#Raptors#BirdOfTheDay
Well done catching the otters - always a delight. We've been to Mull 3 times and never saw an otter nearer than 300 yards, similar results at Leighton Moss. Walking the dogs along the Mersey near home last month and blow me, an Otter pops up which we followed for a mile. 1st here for me in 50 years
Common Whitethroat, Yellow Wagtail, Sedge Warbler, Spotted Flycatcher. The flycatcher was an interesting one as he was at the opposite end of his migration - pic taken in Kenya in Feb 2018. #BirdOfTheDay#birds#photography#EastCoastKin
I had assumed they were the same but it seems not.
(from All About Birds) Black Guillemots, which overlap in distribution only in the Bering Sea, are very similar, but have white (not gray) underwing linings and have pure white wing patches (Pigeons have a black wedge across each wing patch).
Fabulous birds. We have the same in the UK but here they are less imaginatively called Black Guilimots. Love the bright red feet and matching red gape if you catch them squawking or feeding.
Thanks Alan. I was told Black-tailed Godwits tend to be most likely on inland waterways, Bar-tailed favour coastal habitats. Mine was at Martin Mere, inland but near the coast.
