Looking back, Hugo knows it wasn't fair of him to refuse to communicate properly with Lycaon. He didn't know how. He didn't even know it was an option. Would Lycaon have understood? Would Hugo have lost what little intimacy he could get back then? Would it have made a difference?

They ignore the discomfort, they trust that it's just "part of the process", that it's the price to pay for intimacy. Don't be a downer now. You wanted sex and you got it. No need to complain. You take what you can get from life and you have to be happy with it.
