weirdly, seeing politicians on tv has the same effect on me
whenever i'm watching star trek and there's an actor playing a hologram i think "oh yeah this actor is not real" and then i think "wait wtf the actor is a real person" and then a few seconds later i have the first thought again

even if somebody writes an inaccurate version of the exact time and location that they live in, unless the author said in plain, uncomplicated language 'this is meant to be exactly like the real thing.' it is better reading etiquette to not assume so

people drawing jayvik as horses AUs, horses are not dogs or cats they cannot survive on 3 legs/in a brace. like a horse that breaks its leg is going to be put down. viktor is going to need a different disability in that kind of AU like PLEASE disabilities cannot be translated 1:1 with other mammals

I think any attempt to define modern ttrpg 'cultures of play' is a failure if it doesn't classify "5e/critrole fandom" as its own thing largely disconnected from other ttrpg (or analogue game) play-cultures, and instead largely drawing from fandom and fanfic subcultures.

I'm having a revelation.. I think treating evil game design, player-hostile design, quality of death, etc. as goals, while aligned with my values on a surface level, is kind of like when someone intentionally sets out to make a "bad" movie. It will not be as beautiful as the sincere "bad" movies.
