Is Pierre at this café?

Photographer, DJ and collector of things. Proud board member of The Aunties, servant to human flourishing.
The thunderstorms alert, which apparently ends 10 minutes after the warning arrived, seems a bit… making up for last night?

Laneway is on right now! If you're feeling FOMO and/or reminiscent, our friend Jackson Perry shared with us his photos from the first 6 years of Laneway in Aotearoa New Zealand, from 2020 to 2015. "The most memorable moment for many at Laneway 2010 was...

SOCRATES: I am wiser than this man; he fancies he knows something, although he knows nothing—
DARRYL, SOCRATES' FRIEND (Editor's note: There is no historical evidence that Socrates actually had a friend named Darryl. This is likely a character invented to facilitate the joke.): fuck him up socrates

We need an antidote to all this ‘waves arms’. Remember this song by @billybragg.bsky.social and Wilco? Where did all the ideology go?

Reposting myself to tag in @madpropsnz.bsky.social Hello!
This house needs a #madpropsnz category all of its own. Is it enough to draw me to Whanganui? Maybe.

Someone should sit Seymour down and make him watch this on repeat. It’s not about the patches. With hat tip to my BIL who worked on it.

This government is making a habit of lavish announcements that they will be doing less. ‘Reducing the burden on the tax payer’ is legislating inequality.

Something I think isn’t really obvious to non-researchers is that the vast, vast majority of NZ government science spending already goes to funds which are targeted at direct economic outcomes. The Marsden Fund was the last, inadequate bastion of fundamental research funding. 🧪

For independent journalism to survive, it needs to be funded by its audience. Old models will no longer work, as marketing revenue is being concentrated in the hands of despots. Tautoko @thespinoff.bsky.social I’m in.
In my short time working at The Spinoff, I met people who I’d argue are more important to NZ society than you can imagine.

It’s a flipping hard job, especially in this environment, and there’s no similar media org in New Zealand. They need our support. thespinoff.co.nz/media/28-11-...

I was a volunteer at the hikoi, at Waitangi Park. Not sure if it's been reported on any media but there was so much aroha - Muslims For Te Tiriti gave us hundreds of curry meals, and as I was leaving, the Cambodian community gave us over 1000 meals. Aroha before politics. THAT was the hikoi!
