Greetings! 👋🏼 I'm a climate scientist studying the role of vegetation & soils in our future climate. I'm also a geography professor at UGA & a UGA alum (go Dawgs!).

Ignoring the harmful effects of climate change will also affect national security.
Today, 20+ senior national security leaders submitted their critique of the DOE's climate report -- "wholly inadequate" for tackling the security risks posed by climate change. Signees include the former Commandant of the Coast Guard, PACOM commander & AFRICOM commander. Read their comment here:

Having spent much actual and emotional time and energy responding to this report, I whole-heartedly agree. Greenhouse gas emissions are bad for our planet, it's not a matter for debate.
To be clear, we really do not need to and should not be having to use our time 'debating' this fantastical nonsense in 2025. There are enough real bits of actual climate science to do. The collective brainpower expended on this by so many scientists could have been -much- better spent.

Having spent much actual and emotional time and energy responding to this report, I whole-heartedly agree. Greenhouse gas emissions are bad for our planet, it's not a matter for debate.
Good things are happening today - the side entrance to my building is open again, so I no longer have to carry my bike up stairs and through the main entrance. It's the little things.

I'm excited to contribute to the next IPCC report as a lead author for the WG1 chapter on "Global projections of Earth system responses across scales". We'll be assessing forcings of climate change and the responses across the Earth systems, including my favorite component 🥁... the carbon cycle.
The #IPCC has announced the authors selected for its Seventh Assessment Report.

Congrats to these fabulous students on presenting their research projects at UGA's undergraduate research symposium today! I presented at this symposium in 2002(!), and it was a pivotal time of discovering how much I love research. I'm thrilled to be able to offer similar opportunities now.
