My wife saw my astonished confusion. She put her hand on mine. “None of these friends knew you back then, Dan. You’re not like that anymore.” I couldn’t stop the tears down my cheeks. I hadn’t even noticed.

I used to offend everyone I met, without meaning to. For years I worked hard to improve my social skills, helped by my wife & demanded by my employer.
At a party I once mentioned that all my friends had overcome their initial reaction to befriend me, but too many people couldn’t see past it.
