For me growing up as a Jehovah’s Witness the answer would have been All, including birthdays, and I’ll be obligated to explain to everyone how each holiday specifically offends Jehovah.

Big thank you to Lara Waldrop for the talk at SSL. Lara leads the Carruthers Geocorona Observatory. It will orbit the Sun to capture UV images of Earth’s exosphere. SSL built many of the instruments and will contribute to the research and operate the spacecraft.

We put rooftop solar on our home 3 years ago. It generates more electricity annually than we use (including electric car charging and air conditioning).

NASA’s Carruthers Geocorona Observatory is preparing to launch this fall. This exciting new mission will journey a million miles from home to study Earth’s outermost atmospheric layer, the exosphere. We’re premiering a new video about the mission on YouTube today.

This always bugged me too. She did not start the war. If her mutiny had succeeded, she might have averted it.

I just wanna write about astronomy and talk about Star Trek and make high-level puns and post fun photos but instead we have secret police and federally sponsored kidnappings and horrifically repressive legislation jammed through and oh yeah also a massively illegal war in the Middle East.

Dammit.

I honestly can’t stop thinking about this RFK speech. A lot of the outrage around it is focused on pointing out that it’s not true.

But so fucking what if it was? Do people whose bodies don’t work not deserve to exist in society? If all these things were true for a person are they less worthy?
"These are kids who will never pay taxes," Kennedy declared. "They'll never hold a job. They'll never play baseball. They'll never write a poem. They'll never go out on a date. Many of them will never use a toilet unassisted. We have to recognize we are doing this to our children."

I will say to you what I say to my students.

We know the climate is changing, we know why it is changing and that we are the cause, we know what we need to do.

We. Just. Need. To. Do. It. (3/)

Rose, I missed this news last month and I’m so sorry for you.

If you want a thought partner to help brainstorm pathways from here, I’d be happy to chat. Been trying to figure things out myself…

When you look at the list of institutions they want to defund: libraries, museums, the Smithsonian, public schools, PBS, NPR, archives, you can clearly see that the real threat to an authoritarian regime is an informed and educated public

Many do! On my iPhone it’s an accessibility function. When I triple-press the side button it activates. Very useful for preserving my night vision when working in the planetarium.

I was honored to speak at the Stand Up for Science March in Berkeley yesterday. The text of my remarks is in the photos. I hope this momentum continues.

Let there be light.
