All I can say is I think it’s easy for someone to argue that a “few deaths” is a cost to pay in the abstract, and very different to pay that cost directly. I’d love to know Kirk’s opinion if he knew he was selected to pay that cost personally.

Seems like the proper way to honor Kirk in his death is to give a solid “Meh” since empathy has “done a lot of damage” and his shooting death is just the price to pay for those sweet, sweet 2nd amendment rights.

It’s also a redundant encoding of information. You’re already using color for magnitude, why also use the z-axis for that?

CNBC: So we should expect the US government to be taking more equity stakes in businesses around the country?

KEVIN HASSETT: It's possible, yeah. That's absolutely right.

Understood. I don’t know the Mississippi electorate. But my prior right now, for the US in general, is far too many people made “vibes-based” votes and are now suffering real consequences of that choice and I got no empathy left for them. Would revise if disenfranchised voters are the difference. 😔😡

Can’t agree with “most people”. If “most people” voted differently, you could, by definition, meaningfully affect what’s happening. Any member of “most people” who didn’t vote or voted GOP is living with the consequences of their decision.

The GOP needs to look up the phrase “the government controls the means of production”

It is my Great Honor to report that the United States of America now fully owns and controls 10% of INTEL, a Great American Company that has an even more incredible future. I negotiated this Deal with Lip-Bu Tan, the Highly Respected Chief Executive Officer of the Company. The United States paid nothing for these Shares, and the Shares are now valued at approximately $11 Billion Dollars. This is a great Deal for America and, also, a great Deal for INTEL. Building leading edge Semiconductors and Chips, which is what INTEL does, is fundamental to the future of our Nation. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I mean, AI is being sold as the solution today for things it sucks at. So saying it “doesn’t work” is reasonable, no?

ChatGPT5 gets sold as “multiple PhD’s at your fingertips” and makes mistakes I would frown on interns making.

I can’t help hearing all the arguments about “erasing history” when statues honoring civil war losers were being taken down.

You can't teach U.S. history without "divisive" narratives. Slavery wasn't "unifying." The Japanese incarceration wasn't "unifying." The anti-immigrant Operation Wetback (real name) wasn't "unifying."
It's history's job to tell the truth, not cover up past racism to pave the way for future racism.

Not sure how many scientists here have tried Claude Code or similar command line coding assistants. I had a complicated family property tax problem that was best solved by a brute force Monte Carlo simulation approach, so I spent a few days coding up and analyzing a model with Claude Code.
