Zero reckoning from any of the elites who credulously parroted the absurd idea that the right wing was in favor of free speech.

Strongly agree. Once we’ve established that “politics” is just frottering flags, announcing crackdowns, saying “There’s no magic money tree” and interviewers asking politicians whether a lady can have a willy, it’s going to be hard to break out of that.

one more thought: some loser is going to say "oh you're not supposed to look that closely at it" and like, no; if you put a high fidelity-looking image in your slides, then you are signaling to people that they should pay attention to it. if you want it to look like a crude sketch, sketch it crudely
This is a big part of it, for me. Instead of glancing at the image and continuing to listen to the talk, I’m noticing that the table leg is connected to the chair, that the shirt buttons sideways, that the window bleeds weirdly into the wall. And wondering why the presenter didn’t notice or care.
It's also just distracting because usually the image has some weirdness to it, and it doesn't tend to add explanatory value. So if you're just adding them for ambience or to represent a generic concept, just use a regular picture.

Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

Dedicated helplines are like tourniquets. They're good at helping with crises but rely on one too long and that does its own damage.

Trans youth requires real, sustained support. No emergency fixes.
A distressed sixteen year old sends an impassioned letter explaining how fear of the withdrawal of her gender affirming care has left her suicidal.

But it’s ok, NHS Sussex ICB are on it with a dedicated helpline. That should fix things. The evidence for the efficacy of helplines is legendary.

If you think that the current state of trans healthcare in the UK is because of concern or caution, I'd encourage you to think again.

It's not medically informed, it's a reactionary response to transphobic bigotry whipped up into a frenzy over the past few years.

And it costs lives.

Three weeks ago I marked nine years on Testosterone.

I didn't celebrate it then because I was in the middle of a multi-month battle to be allowed to stay on it, despite not producing my own hormones and simply wanting to remain on the exact prescription I'd had for nine years without any problems.

They think they can balance the country being totally hostile to a relatively small number of asylum seekers; marginally hostile to migrants needed to fill work in key sectors (health, care etc) and international students; and very attractive to high skilled migrants in high pay sectors. They can't.
