In a way I could see that, I quit certain substances over a decade ago and totally cut off the majority of the people I used with. It definitely wasn't a good idea to hang around when I was cleaning up. I could also see the writers not knowing what to do with sober Barney, I like your headcanon tho.

Would placing bread and cheese on a pan, letting it melt a little and then putting the tuna on and closing the sandos work easier?

That's what I do with my egg sandwiches, not sure if the tuna would fall out easily when flipping though 🤔
