Akira is my go-to manga; I still have Arcane living rent-free in my head, mundus sine caesaribus
Just back from my yearly one week holiday.
Went to Ballycastle in Ireland. Visited the Lammas fair but didn't buy any horses... or toy guns

Spotted this grasshopper in my yard.
Erin(10) identified it as a long-winged cone-headed grasshopper - she has a few insect books.
Could this be a climate change migrant? Because these are southern coast Britain at best, and we're up North --> in Merseyside, UK
#climatechange in action?

Tax the rich graffiti spotted between the tiles above a pub pisser in Cork, Ireland.
Always good advice for policy makers

Mouse in my bird feeder.
Quite the adventurous little fellow.

Not sure if it's stuck, but it is very happy

Ah 2016. Little did we know!?

This is me (less grey and short hair) somewhere in Corsica wandering around aimlessly on the spare day between an astronomy summer school, "Astrophysical Jets, Cargese 2016" and my flight back north.

In my simple mind, I find this hilarious -- still do #boutiquefanny

Did Ch4 News just have a giant Russian flag as the slide transition on their report about Trump's disaster of a first 100 days!?

"You might very well say that but I just couldn't possibly comment" 😉

Well played Ch44 @channel4news.bsky.social

I love the time of year when the koru on ferns start to unwind

Not a heart attack - told you 111 was being melodramatic.

Probably vampirism though

And it being so close to Easter, that water definitely means blood

Using my long recovery (I hope) to catch up on some reading.
Today I finished, I'm going to say, biographical novel, Maus.

Powerful, troubling, and disturbing narrative of a Jewish family's "survival" of the holocaust. A prime example of generational trauma and humanities variable ethical compass

I've never needed glasses before, but about 6 months ago I noticed that I was finding it harder to read really small writing. Then I noticed my focus would take longer to work. And then, I increased the font size on my laptop 😱
So, from 20:20 to really wouldn't notice otherwise, reading glasses 🕶️

Got my wife a new health watch thingy, cos she's super fit. So I got her old one... a Fitbit. Never had one before, and I'm bed rest sick right now 🤒.
I'm looking forward to my achievements when(if) I get better, "well done, you did 1000 steps today. That's 10 times your average last week"

Fix or fail last resort.

"The champion" size beer at Beercode in Florence airport.

Had a bit of a shitty time with my health/mind in Florence. But the first time I felt like having a beer, so...

Disappointing lack of Taylor Swift pictures in today's talks at the "Celebrating 20 years of Swift discoveries" conference in Florence...
Here is my final slide from yesterday 1 of 2 Swifts

I have _pride_ about this figure from my recent paper.

It shows the viable parameter space for Lense-Thirring precession at 22.5 Hz for a merger origin black hole disk system.

This is relevant to the claimed periodicity in the precursor to GRB211211A

It's also LGBTQ+ proud #ally #kiakaha 🔭 #astro

My office is two floors above Uni of Liverpool's dept. of infectious diseases.
If I watched more outbreak/zombie movies stuff like this left in foyer might worry me

My daughter after a busy day with Drs and school.
Apparently the school has, "a cardboard figure of you!"(me)

Hmmm 🫤

Told my daughter(10) about happy 😀 and sad 😢 numbers.

She loves funny things like this. They occasionally become hyperfocal points - like when she discovered irrational numbers.

It amuses me to think about her random classroom fact dumps.

I needed the old rusty wheelbarrow at the allotment. But the bucket was detached. No tools, so...

IT'S KIWI TIME!

Bit of garden wire (not no.8 sorry), managed to break a length off, and "she'll be right"-ed the bucket.

The kids stayed home so missed out on the heritage skill

The old pair of socks my kids got me several years ago are suddenly part of the resistance!
I'm not really a Super Mario fan, I haven't even played it, but my kids do...
