Presented a webinar to Cheshire and Merseyside General Practice colleagues this lunchtime on our recently published document 'When a Child Dies - a Framework for General Practice'. Such an important area to get right.

Anecdotally most enquiries so far are from patients who are not eligible. I think the hard bit is not going to be whether there is a service for those eligible, rather how we talk to and manage those who are asking for it, but are not eligible? This would be the challenge even if services were live.
drjongriffiths.bsky.social
From my perspective the message to patients is: Are you eligible? If not, then we cannot prescribe. If so, then we will refer once service available.
drjongriffiths.bsky.social
I think there are things that, as GPs, we do know (in my area at least). We know what the eligibility criteria is and that there will be a service that will start this summer. We know we should not prescribe. Patient facing comms on ICB website and GP comms have gone out from ICB over 1 week ago.

Thank you to the @NCMD_England for publishing my blog. This draws on my experience as a bereaved parent. How would you respond to someone telling you that one of their children has died? Check out my blog for some thoughts from me on this. #bereavement #grief

Thanks David, I would agree. Finding the right word for what to call our document is important and 'guidelines' might not be the right one.
