Eek. It's all feeling a bit real that my book will be hitting shelves in a few months. It's exciting but also a bit nerve-racking! I wouldn't be here without the lovely folks at @utpress.bsky.social and the wonderful staff at @icshc.bsky.social.
The image shows a screen grab of a search for the book Gridiron Invasion: The Hidden History of Women's Football and that it can now be pre-ordered.

Had the best day at the Rugby World Cup Final. A record crowd, the top four sides in the world and England are World Champions. Amazing to see the love for women's sport.

5) Act on student-led ideas - invite and support student suggestions for improving learning and community, such as welllbeing surveys, interest-bsaed events, or peer-led study tools.
If you want to know more, or would like the summary poster, please do let me know.

4) Teach to involve, not just inform - set clear expectations, check understanding, respond promptly to questions, and use interactive teaching methods.

3) Build belonging beyond week one - Use structured icebreakers in induction week and promote social activities throughout the term. Include shared interests to spark connections.

2) Make support personal and accessible - build help sessions into seminars or run extra drop-ins for first assignments. Personally tell students about support services.

1) Ease the transition - share a sample coursework piece and short guide on writing and research to help students adapt from exam-based to coursework-heavy study.

Thanks to a funded Scholarship Project for Undergraduate Researchers, @drdavehindley.bsky.social and I worked with one of our students (Megs Bainbridge) on a project over the summer investigating the transition to first year for new students. Megs had five key findings.

A showery day at Donington Park today. But when life gives you rain showers, it also gives you rainbows! Back tomorrow for, almost certainly, more 🌧️. #MarshalLife

Feeling a bit down today and with the hubby out I'm indulging in one of my favourite passions - Shakespeare's history plays. My love of Shakespeare (I've seen all 37 plays) comes from my Dad. My love of the history plays from an inspiring A-Level England Lit teacher when we studied Richard II.
Box set of the Royal Shakespeare Company's productions of Richard II, Henry IV parts one and two and Henry V placed on a sofa.

It's such a privilege and honour to take over as Chair of the @bssh.bsky.social. Being a part of this community has played a key role in my academic journey and I look forward to continuing to support our members and maintaining our reputation as a friendly space for research in the discipline.

Sometimes (esp. just before the start of the academic year) you just need to hang out in some fields for three days with your friends and listen to music! #TheLongRoadFestival

It was fantastic to be back at Peter Symonds College today to deliver three "Preparing for University" sessions to a great bunch of sports students. They engaged with all the activities brilliantly. It's hopefully the start of a bigger project and pilots at other colleges.

Great stuff from Adam Borrie. I certainly need to better understand how to use AI for my own work but also helping students. Loads of top tips to not only save time but come up with new ideas/activities for lectures. #TILT2025.

Celebrating 10 years of the NTU Trent Institute of Learning & Teaching (TILT) with some excellent cakes. Getting involved in TILT activities helped me find a fabulous community of like minded folks including @wcarey.bsky.social @edfoster.bsky.social @drsbroadberry.bsky.social and others! #TILT2025.

I always love this time of year and the NTU TILT Teaching and Learning Conference. It was great to be presenting the Peer Assisted Learning Scheme (PALS) that James Rowland and I introduced in the Department of Sport Science this year. It'll be bigger and better next year! #TILT2025
